Traffic Focus Web Design

Websites Designed for Simplicity and Speed

You may have noticed how simple this website is. This is something we have done deliberately.

Why is this Site not Pretty?

For a business that focuses on web design and web hosting you might think this a little odd, and we also found this to be strange, which is why it took 19 years to come to this place. My (David's) first website was built in 2002 and I was like everyone else aiming for visual beauty, as I have done with all the websites we have designed until December 2020. At that point we were working with a client, who is a medium sized church, to optimize their website to keep traffic. What was happening was that the website was attracing thousands of visitors from Google Search each month, but 90% of them were bouncing away. The site was simply too slow to keep them. You can check out the site at www.peace.org.au

Go Lite

We concluded the site had to go lite, and we took the drastic step of culling 95% of all the photos, and removing nearly all the javascript, the home page slider and much more. All video was now embedded, and the results were amazing. The bounce rate dropped overnight to around 40%. The amount of retained traffic doubled because of a simple website design that loaded fast.

So the next step was to build our own website in the same manner, and you are looking at it. You'll notice that both sites are similar. They are clean, with simple menus, effectively no pictures, low-resolution logos, all buttons created via CSS, and only two javascripts background processes at work.

Heavy Lifting to Go Lite

The process to take a site lite isn't as complex as the normal design process, but its more like laborious manual labor. The focus is on simplicity, clean pages, and making sure the wording and copy is correct. So for designers like us, we need the help of the website owner to write their own copy, be willing to trust us to do that, or to pay a third party professional for the purpose.

The basic process is this, we seek to have every page on your website load around the 1 second mark or quicker. This is four times faster than most good sites, and up to 10 times faster than some wordpress sites, which are notoriously slow. We then seek to make each page simple with no added graphics or distractions, and simply the one or two things per page that the end-user is looking for. The goal of your site is to help them find what they are looking for, so they can leave your site as soon as they have it. This is also Google's goal, and when they see you cooperating with them, it will help (over time) your clicks to rise

Traffic Focus Website Design

So why not take your website lite, and aim for a simple site that is focussed on getting your traffic straight to what they want, so they can get it quick and get out. The truth is that many people don't care about how pretty something is, they just want to find out, or do what they came to do.
